Uploading a recording

If you already have an audio file — a Voice Memo, a Zoom or Teams export, or a dictaphone recording — you can upload it to TakeNote and have it transcribed, rather than recording live in the app.

What you can upload

TakeNote accepts audio files up to 500MB. Anything that is not recognised as an audio file is rejected with Unsupported file type. Please choose an audio file., and empty or oversized files are refused as well. If you have a video file, export or convert its audio track first.

Starting an upload

On the upload screen, drag an audio file onto the dropzone or tap it to choose one from your device. Before transcribing, set a couple of options that help accuracy:

  • Meeting typeIn-person meeting (two or more speakers in the room) or Phone call (a voice call, speakerphone, or video bridge).
  • Expected number of speakers — leave it on Auto, or pick 25+ when you know how many people were talking.
  • Key terms — add names, products, or jargon you expect in the conversation so they are spelled correctly in the transcript.

When a file is selected, choose Upload and transcribe.

What happens next

TakeNote uploads the file and then transcribes it, moving through Uploading audio…, Upload complete, Submitting to TakeNote…, and Transcribing your recording…. Larger files take longer to upload and transcribe. When it finishes, the transcript opens for review and you can save the meeting to your library.
